Commence my eating healthier phase - attempt #328438295

But I'm really going to stick to it this time! Really!

I bought a bunch of healthy stuff at the grocery today. And I bought more storage containers at IKEA on Tuesday so I have more options for bringing my lunch and dinner to school.

Except my normal cereal bowls were not big enough for a spinach salad, so I had to use my giant mixing bowl so I didn't make a giant mess.

It might be time to invest in some medium size bowls.

BACK TO IKEA! Or maybe just Meijer across the street.

I'm deviating already

I've been clicking "next blog" in hopes of finding blogs I enjoy, and I keep getting conservative blogs praising Ayn Rand, Boehner, small government/no taxes and the like.

You want limited government and low taxes? MOVE TO FUCKING SOMALIA. I hear low taxes and small government are working SWIMMINGLY for its citizens.

I don't know how blogger decides what the "next blog" is, but it needs a better methodology. Because my blood pressure has raised tremendously in the 20 minutes I've been doing this.

Something positive: I'm going to Cincinnati tomorrow (today?)! Woohoo!

I complain too much and am generally a negative person.

I want to change this.

It's so hard to change, though. So I think I may try posting one positive thing a day. And on days I need to complain about something, I'll balance it out with something positive.

Today's positive thing?

I went to Yats with a friend for lunch today. Yats is one of the best restaurants in Indianapolis, and it's NOT A CHAIN. This is a big deal for Indy, which is very much a chain-city.

B&B is the only thing I will eat there. It's soooo delicious.

What I will be doing for spring break:

1. Going to IKEA in Cincinnati with my friend who used to look like Wheezy Waiter.

2. Stalking professors' CVs online so I can narrow down where I will apply to graduate school in the fall. Seriously, a professor's CV not only includes academic history but usually some personal information too. So I feel like a fucking stalker when doing this, but I have to remind myself that this is normal for prospective grad students.

My current, not narrowed-down list, from closest to Indianapolis to farthest, with my current preference rank in parenthesis:

Indiana University Bloomington (IUB) (-3573922613)

Washington University St. Louis (1!!!!!!)

University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (6)

University of Michigan Ann Arbor (4)

Ohio State (5)

University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (2)

Harvard (LOL)

Stanford (3)

London School of Economics (not-a-chance)

Apologies in advance, I'll probably be talking about graduate school a lot for a while. I'm already losing sleep over it because I am TERRIFIED I'm not doing enough or doing well enough to make it into any of these schools other than IUB (I'm at IUPUI right now, one of IUB's sister schools). My advisor is convinced I can make it into Chapel Hill, and the fact that two of my professors that I am close to did their Ph.D there will help.

3. Attempting to adjust to the time change.

4. Writing something like 3 papers.

Wooo this break will be a blast.

Only Lex will ever appreciate this

My friend shaved his hair off. This really pisses me off, because with his hair, HE LOOKED JUST LIKE WHEEZY WAITER.

I Witnessed Something Today That I Never Would Have Thought About

I went down to the basement today at work to get the mail (I don't know why the fuck the mail room is in the basement, but whatever), and I was waiting on the elevator so I could take the mail up to the office on the 5th floor. The elevator door opened, and out ran a kid. The dad waved at him, but wasn't calling out for him (I didn't grab the kid because I thought he'd turn around and come back when his dad yelled). The dad stepped out trying to hold on to the elevator door so it wouldn't close, and I said, "Oh, I'll hold it for you!) He didn't seem to hear me, but a split second later he saw me holding it and he went to get his kid. As this was happening, another guy saw the kid and turned him around and he ran back to his dad into the elevator. This all happened much faster than it probably seems. When the kid ran back into the elevator, the dad signed "Thank you" to me.

He was deaf.

Can you imagine your kid running away from you and not being able to call out for him to get his attention? I mean, this happened inside with a few people around, but what if it happened outside in a crowd?

Also, this kid was barely 3 years old and already understood sign language. Wow.

I mean, I have zero desire to have children, but I still would be terrified if my kid ran away from me and I had no way to communicate with her if we didn't have eye contact.

What I did today instead of homework or midterm preparation:

Watched 5 hours of "Cheers"

Watched 3 hours of "Arrested Development"

Well, I didn't completely forego homework. I was reading during the commercial breaks. Really. I got a little done.
